Ok well I installed a moser 9 inch in my 2000 trans am wich recuires a 1 inch longer driveshaft and 12 bolts require a 1 inch shorter driveshaft. well I looked around at prices and I cant afford a 400 driveshaft at the moment and I trusted a steel shaft over aluminum if it has to be a shorter shaft. So I picked up a steel shaft from a 96 and damn if the shaft itself wasnt a half inch longer than my aluminum one. So I measured the insert that goes into the transmision and found out the one on the aluminum one was a half inch longer than the one on the steel one. So once I swaped the snouts ($40 in u joints) I had my 1 inch longer shaft for my 9 inch and have a 1 inch shorted one that should work with a 12 bolt.
